Training - Cultural Competence

Sharing What Works

"Very warm and safe environment to learn and grow. I learned a lot and felt very welcomed, validated and supported. This wasn't just one more workshop. I will treasure this experience.
Keep it up! Gracias!"

"I valued the self-discovery that occurred. Until you know yourself, getting to know others is an insurmountable task."

"This training helped me learn about how different cultures felt. Very interesting. I will remember this and carry it with me for the rest of my life."

"I think this seminar would work really well in our office. Our office is very diverse and I think it would be helpful to have these discussions with people you work with everyday."

Understanding culture - whether it's your own or that of the people you work with - is critical to being effective in establishing a strong foundation of support for community and youth. It's about how each of us was raised, where we come from, where we've been, and how we grew up in the world. It's about how our young people are seeing and being seen in the community - locally and globally.

The Spirit of Culture Training
The Spirit of Culture training provides an experiential learning environment in which participants explore not only their own cultural identity, but how they interact in a multi-cultural group.

In this full-day training experience you will:

  • Explore individual and group cultural identity.
  • Link positive youth development and cultural competency to help move your youth service program to the next level.
  • Participate in experiential exercises designed to expand your knowledge base.

The Spirit of Culture walks participants through a strength-based approach to cultural competency. The session provides relevant examples of how cultural competence, when linked to youth development, can be effective in developing positive relationships with young people. Perfect for anyone working with youth in ethnically diverse communities.
