Training -
Parent Engagement
|
Behind every thriving child is a support network of parents, community members and teachers commited to the care and education of their young people. And parent engagement is the cornerstone of a strength-based youth development approach that can increase social conscience and academic achievement, and stem risk behavior in our youth before it happens. The Power of Parents
Training Designed to energize parents in creating a strength-based environment at home and at school, this session examines the benefits of parent engagement in asset-building schools by outlining the role of parent engagement in a child's life and in a young person's ability to thrive. Effective engagement requires taking action. How can parents and teachers best participate in creating and sustaining parent engagement in schools? Defining statements guide both the process and the practice. What effective strategies have been put into practice by parents and teachers in asset-building schools? A compilation of strategies and profiles of parent engagement in different educational settings capture the essense of and answer the question, "What does effective parent engagement look like?" Check the 2002 Training Schedule for Power of Parents training dates or contact ACY to inquire about scheduling a training for your organization. The Expect Success
Project Studies have shown increases in academic achievement, reductions in detention referrals and drop-outs, and the establishment of a caring school climate. Parental engagement in the school not only provides a connection between parents, students and educators, it supports teachers in educating our youth and helps tie the community to the school.
