Positive youth development is not a program or curriculum. It's not a one-time community service project. It's a way of life. It's a way of interacting with people young and old. It's a movement to change how people behave.

Whether you're a principal or teacher infusing a strength-based approach to student development or a parent group re-connecting with youth, our introductory level training sessions provide a practical application of the asset framework developed by Search Institute.

Introduce the Assets Framework to Your School
Designed for teams of school administrators, teachers, and support staff—or for entire school staffs—this training focuses on the links between academic achievement and the 40 developmental assets. An overview of the asset framework and a series of hands-on activities will help staff to identify and expand existing asset-building efforts, and to work together to create others.
Training topics include:
• Assets and academic achievement
• Keys to effective asset building
• Steps to creating an asset-building school
• Increasing parent engagement with the asset framework

Training materials for each participant are included.

Empower Parent Groups
Assets for Colorado Youth has presented the asset framework to thousands of parents over the past four years in a variety of settings—child care centers, PTA meetings, Back-to-School nights, community colleges, and community meetings. The asset training for parents is customized for diverse audiences large or small and helps parents to:
• Understand the 40 developmental asset framework
• Identify the ways in which they already build assets in their children
• Learn the key principles of asset building
• Commit to becoming more intentional about asset building
• View the asset framework as a springboard for becoming engaged in their children’s education at school and in the community

Mobilize Your Community to Build Assets
Designed for broad-based community groups, this training introduces the 40 developmental assets as a unifying philosophy that gives all community members a role in helping young people to succeed. Participants will learn about the asset framework through hands-on activities and a celebration of asset building already happening around them. The training will connect participants to appropriate resources and asset-building champions, and will include a discussion of “next steps” for groups wanting to mobilize around asset building and positive youth development.
