Asset Builders of the Summit Partners with Media and Business to Promote Message

In the mountain resort communities of Summit County, Asset Builders of the Summit serves as the hub of asset-building efforts and has mobilized the community to support the youth. As one Denver asset champion stated, "If I had kids, I'd want to live in Summit County. You see assets everywhere - from the grocery store to the bank." The dedicated team represents local businesses, schools, government, youth services, parents and youth. Asset Builders of the Summit involves businesses, the media, schools and municipalities to creatively partner in mobilizing the community in support of the young people.

For example:

  • An "Inspired by Assets" writing contest, inviting students in grades K12 to write about who inspires and motivates them, was sponsored by Alpine
  • Bank, Krystal 93FM and the Summit Daily News. First place was $250 in a savings account at the bank.
  • Partnerships with local newspapers and radio stations provide a mouthpiece for the asset initiative, as well as give public recognition to the contributions of asset building youth and adults.
  • The three municipalities contribute funding to Asset Builders of the Summit activities
  • Business partners help sponsor community events, such as Asset Awareness Month each October and an annual banquet honoring outstanding educators each spring.

As a result of these partnerships, more and more adults and youth in Summit County understand the importance of the developmental assets and are taking action to build assets in young people and in the community. As one Denver asset champion stated, "If I had kids, I'd want to live in Summit County. You see assets everywhere - from the grocery store to the bank."
