Community Partners
Spread Positive Youth Development in Jefferson County PACCT, Parents and Communities Connecting Together, was created to serve South Jefferson County in the Metro Denver area in 1993. The organization was created to build a sense of community in a large suburban area, not well defined by city limits or geography. PACCT's mission is to be a catalyst in the community on behalf of youth suffering from the lack of support that is more prevalent in closely knit communities. Since that time PACCT has played a key role in the community's responses to and efforts to heal from the Columbine High School tragedy. PACCT turned to partnerships with volunteers and community resources to participate on community boards, facilitate community discussions about positive youth development, and work to promote the language of the 40 developmental assets throughout the community. Now in a transition phase, PACCT is again turning to community partners to redefine itself for the coming decade. The PACCT board has hired an executive director whose first task is a "90 day fact finding mission"-- an effort to learn how others have benefited from PACCT's work, identify gaps in services and projects related to positive youth development, and develop a plan that builds upon and maximized the work of PACCT's community partners, including the school district, the PTA, the county mental health department and others.
