Cherry Creek School
District Engages Community to Support Prevention The Cherry Creek School District, Colorado's third-largest school district, has had a tremendous impact in mobilizing and engaging its community in support of building assets in youth. The community arm of the school district's asset-building efforts is the Community Asset Project (CAP). Its membership represents school staff and administration, parents, faith organizations, youth organizations, businesses, city government, law enforcement, media and youth. CAP organizes fundraisers such as the annual First American State Bank Fitness Festival for the district's prevention efforts. Its primary focus is to forge school and community partnerships to promote awareness of the asset framework, and help young people reach their full academic and personal potential. In its partnership with First American State Bank, CAP coordinates a successful communitywide celebration in support of raising healthy youth. This year's First American State Bank Fitness Festival takes place on Saturday, August 23, at the Greenwood Athletic Club in the Denver Tech Center. Along with First American State Bank as the title sponsor, several other businesses and individuals contribute to this community-building event.
